How to Become a Member

Active Member

A qualified physician, who is board certified (American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology or the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology), may be proposed for membership by an Active SGS member, and a second member must endorse the applicant. SGS seeks to be inclusive of qualified international physicians. Distinguished physicians and surgeons who have equivalent credentialing to the American Boards listed above may be proposed for membership.

Associate Member

All fellows in advanced gynecologic surgical fields (Complex Family Planning; Gynecologic Oncology; Maternal-Fetal Medicine; Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility; and Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery) as well as Minimally Invasive Gyncecologic Surgery or general Fellows in gynecology or urology residency programs, are eligible for membership as Associate Members of the Society.

All members of the Fellows’ Pelvic Research Network (FPRN)® must be Associate Members. Residents are not eligible to be FPRN® Members.

Associate Members have equal rights of participation in the affairs of the society but are not be eligible to vote or hold office or act as a proposer or endorser for new members until achieving Active Membership status.

Associate Member – Post Fellowship

Gynecologic surgeons within three years post Fellowship training are eligible for membership as Post Fellowship Associate Members. This membership status is a transition toward Active Membership when Board certification is typically completed. Post Fellowship Training Associate Members have equal rights of participation in the affairs of the society but are not eligible to vote or hold office or act as a proposer or endorser for new members until achieving Active Membership status.
